In general, the usual size of a towel in the Netherlands is 50x100 cm. There are also large bath towels, bath sheets or shower towels with a size of 60x110 cm or even 70x140 cm. Beach towel
There are even larger sizes such as 100x180 cm., 100x200 cm. and for taller people we even have 100x220 cm. and even double 160x200 cm. We call these large towels beach towels . The intention is that you lie on them on the beach or you put them over the lounger at your holiday destination, but you can also use them to dry yourself. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for a thin beach towel. Why? Because it is much easier to take with you in your hand luggage, it dries faster and absorbs just as well! Cotton large towel
Besides the size, there is also a difference in the material the large towel is made of. The most commonly used is cotton because it has excellent absorption capacity and does not irritate the skin. Cotton is often the basis for a large towel. There are also towels made of synthetic materials (think microfiber), but these towels are not ideal for drying because they absorb little to no moisture. Types of large towels
Terry cloth, velvet, woven cotton and so on. A terry cloth towel has cotton loops on both sides, which gives the towel a nice fluffy appearance and has a perfect absorption capacity. Terry cloth towels have a longer drying time. A velvet towel has terry cloth loops on one side and the loops are shaved off on the other side. The velvet side then feels very smooth and soft and shines a little. A velvet towel is somewhat more compact and therefore easier to take with you, the drying time is optimal. Cotton woven towels (think of hamam towels) have been very popular in recent years, especially due to the influence of Mediterranean countries and Moroccan and Turkish saunas.
