Hydrophilic what does that mean?
Literally it means 'water-attracting'. In other words, hydrophilic cloths are made of 100% cotton that is woven so incredibly finely that the fabric remains very light and breathable and absorbs water quickly. In the past, they were only available in white and were used purely functionally as washable diapers. Nowadays, they are used much more multifunctionally because of the finely woven fabric and they are also available in multiple colours and patterns.
What else can you use hydrophilic cloths for?
First of all, it is also for your beautiful baby of course, especially when drying between all the folds, as a burp cloth, over the changing mat for protection, as protection against the sun or, for example, as an extra sheet for on the road.
Due to their functional use, a hydrofieldoek (or swaddle cloth) is also very pleasant to use as a beach towel. The cloths we sell have a large size, (average 140x200 cm) so you can lie on it perfectly well in its entirety (or cozy with two people), it then dries quickly and takes up hardly any space in your beach bag due to the light weight and thin fabric.
These types of cotton sheets can also be used as a shawl, picnic blanket or as a tablecloth and for the sauna.
What is the best way to wash hydrophilic cloths?
Hydrophilic cloths stay beautiful the longest if you wash and care for them the right way. Here are some practical tips:
- Separate light and dark colours – This prevents discolouration and keeps the cloths fresh for longer.
- Wash at a low temperature – 30 degrees is often enough to get them clean without damaging the fabric.
- Use a mild detergent – Avoid bleaches and optical brighteners to protect the fabric and colours.
- Skip the fabric softener – This can reduce the absorbency, making the cloths less effective at absorbing moisture.
- Dry on low temperature – Hydrophilic cloths dry quickly, so a short drying time on low temperature is ideal.
- No need to iron – The airy fabric is wrinkle-free, but if you do want to iron, use a low temperature.
