Maarten and Tara are the owners of Ottomania with great commitment and pleasure. They travel through the countries where the hammam towels come from and look for beautiful products, inspiration and craftsmen. That is how their dream started in 2001 in the form of their own store and since 2003 also wholesale.
“We often had to explain a lot in the beginning, people had no idea that this kind of stuff came from Turkey and Syria. Completely unexpectedly, some things even became a trend: the craftsmanship, the hamam and of course the hamam towels. In the beginning we had to explain again and again that a hamam towel is a thinly woven towel, and that it is so handy for many things, as a wrap for a baby for example, as a holiday towel, beach towel, bath towel, etc. Now it has become a trendy, popular product, which almost everyone now knows what it is. Then we received requests from other shops to sell our products and since 2003 we have also been a wholesaler and now we supply shops all over the world. Ottomania has now become an officially registered brand. But we still travel and work with just as much inspiration, passion and pleasure,” says Maarten.
